Overview

According to Greek Orthodox tradition kataklysmos, meaning flood, derives from the Bible’s tale of Noah’s flood.  In Cyprus, it is traditionally the start of summer season, and folklore celebrations are held in all coastal cities with this religious and popular festival.

Limassol is holding its own festivities over three days at Molos Promenade by the sea organized by the Limassol Muncipality. On the 26th, 27th and 28th of May, the coastal promenade will be filled with music, traditional performances and activities for all. Over the last three years, Limassol Municipality has re-introduced the tradition of ‘Pamporo’ which refers to a boat ride moved with oars our ancestors used to do to see big ships at sea. Today, a modern boat trip is organized to see the city from the water.
If in Limassol, don’t miss out on the Kataklysmos celebrations as they are a great way to experience the local culture and customs.
