Dog-Friendly Beaches for Your Furry Friends

If you’re bringing your doggie along on your holidays to Cyprus, you’ll find, sooner or later, that you can’t take it everywhere, even in some public spaces. Yes, we are baffled by it too, and because we know you’ll be heading to the beach amid the rising temperatures, we’d rather you be informed as to where you can bring your furry friend. Just so you’ll have one less thing to worry about, we’ve listed the dog-friendly beaches of the island where your pet can freely splash around.

Spyros Beach, Larnaca

Even though there are dozens of sandy beaches with crystal clear waters in Cyprus, the ones that are designated to dogs are usually a little less welcoming, often with pebbles and in remote locations. The area of Spyros beach (also known as Kasianes beach) near Larnaca International Airport and just off Meneou is one of the more pleasant dog-friendly beaches, with clean, shallow waters that people can enjoy as well.

Glyki Nero A, Paralimni, Famagusta

A small sandy beach in Paralimni that has a couple of rocks in the sea and is near to the Buffer Zone, it is currently the only place in the Famagusta district where dogs can cool off their paws now that Louma Beach in Ayia Napa, which once allowed dogs, is closed for the new marina’s renovations. This is a designated dog beach until 31.12.2018.

Steratzia Beach, Kato Pyrgos, Nicosia

Although Nicosia is considered an inland district, it still hosts a couple of beaches. One of them allows dogs to play and swim. Steratzia Beach in Kato Pyrgos is a secluded beach; in order to reach it, you’ll need to ask a local of the area for directions.

Karavopetra Beach, Limassol

This is a dog-friendly beach that you can easily access by car. It has plenty of sand and calm waters for humans to relax while their dogs swim. The surrounding area is pretty quiet, located in the Monagrouli region between Le Meridien Hotel and the old Moni power station. Do look it up before you head out, though, as you might easily bypass it.

Prolimnos Beach, Pissouri, Limassol

This is a pebbly beach in Pissouri that offers lovely views, although it’s not easily accessible and its waters are usually rough with big waves. Getting to the beach by car is difficult as you have to go down a dirt road with potholes. Both humans and doggies may therefore struggle to rest here.

Acheilia Beach/Paphos Airport Beach, Paphos

Northwest of Paphos International Airport, in the charming small village of Achelia, is a small and safe beach where dogs can run free. Though not ideal for people to swim, it’s a tranquil area where you can rest your feet.

Pitili Beach, off Neo Chorio, Paphos

Pitili Beach is quite a tricky beach to reach. It’s near the Platania River, but worth it if you can manage the trip – it’s a beautiful natural bay. The area has lots of stones and the sea can be harsh at times, so do take care. Its isolated location with difficult access is the main reason many people don’t opt to visit it.

Although these might not be the most stunning or luxurious beaches you can find in Cyprus, you’ll be sure to be able to let your dog loose to enjoy the seaside. Going to a non-designated dog beach can lead to an €85 fine, so it’s best to be worry-free by following our guide. Most of these locations aren’t organised beaches, with no sunbeds or umbrellas, so it’s best to bring your own supplies – and make sure to protect yourself from the strong sun. And it should go without saying: remember to clean up after your pet!
