Don’t miss these 9 festivals this May

May, the last month of spring, is in full swing, and Cyprus has bloomed.  As summer approaches, many festivals will be held, as the weather permits for more outdoor activities.

The following festivals will not only be informative, but will also give you a chance to explore nature, Cypriot traditions, and sample some of the island’s most beloved flavours.

Check out these nine festivals, which are sure to be a great day out for families and groups of friends.

Larnaca “Europe Square Food Festival” 2019

On May 10 and 11 at 16:00, a food festival will be held in Europe Square in Larnaca, to celebrate Europe Day.

The festival is being held in cooperation with the European Institute in Cyprus and will feature cuisine from all around the continent.

There will be DJs, and dance groups performing, as well as, kiosks where visitors can learn more about the EU and the work of Europa Donna Cyprus, an independent non-profit working to raise awareness for breast cancer.

13th Rose Festival, Agros

Every May for the past thirteen years, the village of Agros has hosted a rose festival, dedicated to the beautifully scented Damascus roses used to make all sorts of products in Cyprus.  The village produces rose water and a rose spoon sweet, while a favourite in Cyprus is also the rose flavoured loukoumi and also ice cream.  The village will be hosting the festival over two weekends May 11-12 and May 18-19.  Guests will be able to see how the roses are collected and made into beautiful products that they can try and buy at the festival.

May Donkey Festival

May is usually the month that many donkeys are born, which is why in the Golden Donkeys Farm in the village of Skarinou organises a celebration.  During the festival, the staff introduce their donkeys to visitors and host a number of fun activities for guests to acquaint themselves further with their animals.

The festival will be held on May 12 from 11:00-19:00.  Entrance: €4 for adults €2 for children.  Buffet prices: €12 for adults €6 for children. For more information call 70 000620.

Nicosia Environment and Recycling Festival

Green Dot Cyprus is organising the festival, which will take place at the Acropolis Park on May 25 from 10:00 until 20:00.  At the festival, there is be interactive games for children, which will deal with recycling, the environment, and well-being.  There will also be kiosks set up, to learn more about the environment and others to get drinks.  The festival will also feature musical performances.

Artichoke Festival

A vegetable many people love will have its own festival in the Larnaca village of Kiti.  The festival will be held on May 12 in the town’s main square, and will include food, drinks, music and dance.

2nd Limassol Spring Festival by Inspired Family Fun

Celebrate Spring at the Limassol Forest Park! Enjoy horse and pony rides, decorate fairy houses, plant flowers, fun family activities, games and rides! Support Karaiskakion Foundation!  The festival will be held on May 18 and 19 from 10:00 until 20:00.  For more information call +357 99 300256.

Larnaca Book Festival

The Prometheus Research Institute, the Press and Information Office, the Youth Board of Cypruus, and the Larnaca Municipality have organised the Book Festival on May 12 in the city’s Europe Square.

Reflect Festival

Reflect Festival is the largest future casting festival between Southern Europe and the Middle East. On May 9-10, 2019 in Limassol at the Carob Mill, Cyprus you’ll get a chance to meet and get inspired by the greatest innovators in the world.

Anthestiria Protaras

The well-known designer Anna Dorothea will be this year’s Princess of Spring, and will lead a parade to be held in Protaras.  On May 11 at 18:00, Protaras will fill with flowers and guests, who will attend the spring festival.  There will be music all along the main promenade of the town.
