Overview
Within the frame of the European Mobility Week, Discover Larnaca, the information centre of Larnaca Municipality Europe Direct, the Cyprus Youth Organisation and the Foivos Stavridis Foundation, present the 1st Discover Larnaca Open City Festival on September 22.
For one day, the old and preserved buildings of the historic St Lazaros Street will open their doors to welcome the public.
Stories, people and unfamiliar aspects of the area, unfold in front of the visitors who will have the chance to explore by walking, the car-free St Lazaros Street.
For many decades, St Lazaros Street has been the social, economic and religious centre of Larnaca.
The area – which has changed over the years – and continues to develop, will welcome guests in a meeting with history and buildings of the area, inviting visitors to learn both the history of the old buildings and the new businesses and the people that are active in them.
Five buildings, a historic road, and a town of art craftsmen, as well as photo exhibitions, music, artists, traditional and contemporary gastronomy, all connect the old town with the modern.
Which is the oldest building on the street, who was “May’s coffee shop” and which is the house of Grandma Rebecca with the nice sweets?
The festival will open with musicians who will start playing their traditional instruments, walking from the Finikoudes, inviting people to sing and walk with them all the way up to St Lazaros Street.
Later in the afternoon, two separate guided tours by personalities of the city will take place, in order to bring visitors in touch with the history of the street and the area.
In the evening, the well-known Cypriot band Monsıeur Doumani, goes up on the main stage of the Festival to entertain the crowd with the unique arrangements of Cypriot songs and songs from their personal discography.
Also, Michalis Kontovouris from Larnaca and his band will be on stage at the first unofficial presentation of his first personal album.
