Artists of one of the best theatres in Russia – the Akimov Comedy Theatre (St. Petersburg) will perform the play “The Gamblers” by Nikolai Gogol. The performances will be held in the framework of the project “Russian Theatre seasons in Cyprus” and the Russian-Cypriot twin cities festival “White Nights in Cyprus”
The play of the brilliant Russian playwright, the author of immortal novels, writer N.V. Gogol “The Gamblers” occupies an honourable place among the most well known and loved repertoire of Russian literature.
The detective story of the play captures even the most sophisticated puzzle lover. In the provincial hotel there are the highest level card cheaters. They team up to break the big score by beating the local landowner with marked cards. Who will take the bank and become lucky – is unknown. After all, the game is an insidious thing: today you’re lucky, and tomorrow you’ll lose it all in ten minutes. The protagonist, Ikhariov, unlike his “comrades”, is not just an adventurer and a scammer; he is an idealist, a genius of his art. For him, the game is poetry.
The performance will be shown in Russian with English subtitles.
