Overview
“The only way out is through” will premiere as part of the Open House Festival by Dance House Lemesos.
Attending the theatre presupposes our agreement to an imaginary contract that forces us to suspend our disbelief. “Suspension of disbelief” describes the willingness to temporarily withhold one’s critical faculties, and to sacrifice logic for the sake of pleasure of a theatrical experience. By remaining static on our seats, we agree to experience life through a rehearsal of it, we travel through space and time, while playing the role of the audience member. If we decide to abandon this illusion, the theatre will be revealed as nothing; and nothingness is the source of not only absolute freedom but also of existential horror.

The performance has been developed out of Chimonas’ research and practise as part of the Moving the New Artistic Development Programme by Dance House Lemesos, and continued at the Home Workspace Program at Ashkal Alwan, Beirut (2018-2019).
Dimitris Chimonas’ work investigates theatre conventions, devices, and frames through their use and abuse. He presented work at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (2015 -2016), at the Benaki Museum (Athens, 2016), at the Young Artists Biennale (Tirana, 2017), at the Window Laboratoire (Paris 2018), and at the Prague Quadrennial of Space Design & Performance (2019), amongst others.
