Great places to enjoy the wintery landscape in Troodos

As the weather has gotten colder, and the large majority of Troodos’ villages have been covered in a blanket of snow, you will be looking for great places to escape and take in the magical winter wonderland.

Snow in the Troodos area generally gathers on the highest points of the mountain range every winter, creating a favourite wintering destination for many visitors.

Here you will find some great hotels to spend a weekend in the snow, or restaurants and cafes to enjoy a meal with your family or friends against the winter landscape.

Troodos Hotel

The Troodos Hotel (+357 25 420000) is located in the central square under the peak of Mount Olympos.  The hotel is ideal for visitors looking to spend time in a family-oriented and welcoming climate, with quality services.

Troodos hotel offers a number services that combine the atmosphere and location into a great stay full of fun and relaxation.

The hotel offers 48 comfortable rooms, which you will be able to select based on your preferences.  There are rooms that offer great views of the mountain top, covered in snow in the winter, and there are also family rooms and luxury rooms available for guests, as well as rooms for handicapped individuals.  There is a restaurant attached to the hotel that operates daily, and offers food and comfort, with additional beautiful views of the mountain.

Wine bar “1725”

This is a great newcomer to Troodos square.  The bar is located next to the Troodos hotel at 1,725 metres high (its name comes from that) and offers a selection of wines and food options for guests looking to spend a cosy time viewing the mountain top.  In the winter there is a wood-burning stove that heats the bar and keeps guests warm, while they view the snow-capped peaks.

Jubilee Hotel

The Jubilee Hotel (+357 25 420107) is close to Troodos Square, and all its rooms have a view of the garden or the mountain peaks.  The café and bar at the hotel offers a cosy atmosphere and a selection of light meals, drinks, and a pool table.  The hotel also offers a restaurant that operates daily for visitors.

Ben Nevis

The Ben Nevis café-restaurant (+357 25 420129) is located in Troodos Square and is open daily from morning until the afternoon (09:00-18:00).  The staff are friendly and always willing to help.  My Cyprus Travel recommends that you try their delicious hot chocolate and one of their desserts if you pop in for a visit to enjoy a beautiful view of the mountain top.

Fereos Park

Fereos Park (+357 25 420114) is located in Troodos Square and is open for lunch and dinner.  The restaurant offers Cypriot meze and other traditional dishes.  Fereos Park is a great place to take in views of the mountain landscape all-year-round while enjoying your meal.

Ski Center Restaurant (Sun Valley)

If you are not an avid skier but want to enjoy a view the slopes on Mount Olympos, while drinking a coffee, then head to the Ski Center (Sun Valley) Restaurant (+357 25 420165) at the base of the slopes.  The restaurant is open daily until the afternoon.

Sun Valley also offers a great selection of Cypriot dishes including souvlaki, sheftalia, and other grilled favourites.  On Sundays, the restaurant also makes kleftiko in its wood-burning oven.

Other places to taste traditional dishes

Near Troodos Square you will find the camping area and Ms. Eleni’s Restaurant (+357 99 349782), located in the forest.  The restaurant is only open on the weekends in the afternoon, and Ms. Eleni makes a variety of traditional dishes including souvla, koupepia, and pasta.

In the village of Prodromos, you will find Louis Restaurant (+357 325 462049), which offers great views of the mountains and is known for its souvla, kleftiko, and moussaka.  The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner, as well as the weekends.
