Located near the village of Kalavasos in the Larnaca district is the Neolithic settlement of Tenta.
Established circa 7000 BCE, Tenta is one of the most significant Neolithic settlements on the island. A tent now covers the settlement, garnering the area the name ‘Kalavasos Tent’, which complements a local legend that St. Helen stayed in a tent in the same area in 327 CE.
St. Helen, mother of the Byzantine emperor Constantine the Great, stayed in Cyprus following her discovery of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem.
