A short but charming route along the Xyliatos Dam outside of Nicosia, through the forest is sure to be one of Cyprus’ most relaxing trails, for hikers looking to take in the majesty of the island.
Xyliatos Dam is in the Troodos mountains, with the trail’s start point being located the dam’s overflow point. It then crosses the artificial bridge over the dam. The uphill trail takes you to the Xyliatos-Lagoudera road, which leads you to the starting point if you follow through the dam’s embankment.
Along the trail you will have a chance to spot endemic bird and plant species to the island, including the Cyprus warbler and frogs, as well as, the Cyprus skullcap.
The trail is approximately 4km long and takes an average of one and a half hours to complete.
