Omodos village, Troodos +357 25 422453

Overview

Located at the foothills of Troodos, Omodos is a quaint wine-making village known for its pebbly streets, its Monastery and its lace. Along the main pedestrian road leading up to the Monastery, you’ll find heaps of little shops selling local  sweets and products and you might even find an old lady making lace embroidery.

To sustain the tradition and study and promote it, the Omodos Centre for the Preservation of Lace was opened in 2004 by the Community Council and the church Committee of the village. Inside you’ll find lace embroideries of all sizes and designs that were kindly donated from the village’s women themselves in order to showcase this rich skill that’s so iconic of the Omodos. It was a skill passed down from generation to generation that’s not so widely done nowadays, so center like this one are important to the cultural heritage of the island.

The exhibits were arranged by the Cyprus Handicraft Service of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, where you can explore the lace varieties.
