Overview
Journey through the birth of a goddess at the World Premier of the Opera ‘The birth of the goddess Aphrodite’ on July 6 in Kouklia, Paphos.
The play is based on Hesiod’s Cosmogony (Genesis) and the music and lyrics were written by Polis Charalambous.
The first act of the opera presents the creation of the world, where Uranus, the sky in Greek mythology, sends all his children with Gaia, the earth, to the pits of Tartarus, fearing his loss of power.
Gaia, after pleading Uranus for access to her children, decides by herself to visit Tartarus to receive the support of her children in overthrowing Uranus.
In the second act, Aphrodite appears on the stage, and is aided by the daughters of Zeus and Thetis. An aria follows, and then Zeus welcomes Aphrodite into Olympus as a goddess.

The opera runs for two and a half hours starting at 20:00, and entrance is €15.
