It’s not unusual for religious sights such as Monasteries and Convents to have a tradition of cultivating their own crops and creating their own products which they sell in order to be self sustainable.
A great example of this is the Ayios Georgios Alamanos Convent in the Limassol district.
Founded in the twelfth century, the Convent was originally founded as a monastery and now functions as a convent. Run by nuns, the Convent is well known for its home-made products and its original iconography painting.
Aside from performing their religious duties, the nuns pass their time with icon painting, the cultivation of flowers and herbs, and the production of honey. The produce the nuns make out of their cultivation make wonderful takeaways.
The area has many restaurants and beaches nearby for those wanting to make a day out of visiting this authentic Convent.
Note: The Convent operates all year round and is open to the public at any reasonable hour. Entrance to the Convent is free of charge. Opening and closing times as well as entrance fees, are subject to alterations without notice. Visitors are advised to check before visiting.
