Overview

Mythical love blossoms on Akamas’ Adonis trail, located in the Paphos district’s northwestern corner near Polis Chrysochou, a picturesque traditional village.

Adonis was the goddess Aphrodite’s most famous lover; she protected him from his birth all the way into his adulthood. The aptly named trail traces several spots where the two lovers met. As the trail bisects Paphos’s verdant forest, it is easy to visualise the mythical duo travelling these paths.

For botany enthusiasts, the trail offers chances to experience a variety of endemic flora including sweet marjoram and the Cyprus sage. Animal lovers can also catch glimpses of foxes, hares, wood pigeons, partridges, and Cypriot warblers.

An approximately 7.5 km long circular trail, the path begins near the Baths of Aphrodite, which you can reach by car. The trail offers breathtaking views of Polis Chrysochous, which is located on the Akamas Bay. It also connects with two other trails in the area: The Smigies trail at Kefalovrysia, where there is a bubbling fountain of non-potable water; and the Aphrodite trail at Pyrgos tis Rigainas (The Queen’s Tower).
