In a cosy valley near Paphos’ Petra tou Romiou (Aphrodite’s ancient birthplace) is the Secret Valley Golf Course.
Renovated in 2013, the par 71 course of 5,700 metres unfolds through rolling Bermuda fairways and bentgrass greens. It is further supported by an academy that offers tuition from a PGA professional. The modern practise area boasts twenty-two covered bays along with large putting, chipping, and pitching greens, plus indoor practise areas. A floodlit three-hole loop for evening play is conveniently located at the lowest end of the golf course, where it links up with the beach development there.
The carefully planned course highlights the natural landscape to create a distinctly Cypriot setting with a unique Mediterranean feel. From the steep hillside, the course offers spectacular tee locations and views of the sea and valley with its mature vegetation.
The elegant clubhouse is decked out in wood and stone with cosy seating areas and a fireplace, as well as valley vistas from two balconies and a menu of fine international cuisine at its restaurant. The golf club also boasts a luxury development of villas and apartments—Venus Rock Resort.
The course, designed by Hans-Georg Erhardt and Snorri Vilhjalmsson, offers a relaxing atmosphere combined with playability. Tony Jacklin, a four-time Ryder Cup Captain and winner of both the British and US open, has also provided his unique signature to the course’s new visage.
