Visitors interested in learning about the endemic species in the Troodos range and about the area’s formation will surely want to stop at the Botanic Gardens and Geopark located outside the village of Amiantos.
Troodos Botanic Garden
Take a stroll through the gardens, located 1,400 metres above sea level, and learn about the precious endemic plant species in the mountains.
The garden is split into four sections: endemic plants, riverine plants, the arboretum, and traditional garden plants. Along with a stroll through the beautifully laid out gardens, you will be able to view a gallery of the plants, interact with an electronic database of Cypriot flora, and see a documentary about the area and the history of the old mine located there.
Visitors can also study fresh and dry plants in detail through the use of stereoscopes.
Troodos Geopark
Learn more about the mountain range’s geology and formation at the Geopark located in the same area as the Botanic Gardens in Troodos.
The Geopark Centre has a projection room where you can see how the island of Aphrodite emerged from the sea and formed its landscapes.
Visitors will also be able to peruse a specialised library that presents the geological history of the island.
The centre is fairly new, having only opened its doors in 2015 after ten years in the making.
The Geopark incorporates an Educational Yard and Viewing Point, as well as a visitor centre that presents the geology of the Troodos mountain range through a variety of interactive and high-tech displays.
