Running rivers in Cyprus make for a great day out of exploration
If you are looking to spend an adventurous winter day out, and explore the beauty of the island’s nature, then you should head to the mountains and discover the majesty of Cyprus’ rivers and dams that have overflowed from the rains.
In the forest of Paphos, you will find the Diarizos River and the famous Venetian bridge Tzielefos. Its popularity is due to the fact that that it’s the largest stone bridge ever built in Cyprus. Found in an area of rich green vegetation, the forest area engulfing it is beautiful and has various nature spots to be explored. Many hikers, tourists and even newly-weds make a stop to be photographed with the charming bridge. Only 6km from Ayios Nikolaos village, enrich your journey by visiting some other nearby picturesque villages such as Omodos, Arsos and Vasa.

Near the Tzielefos bridge, you will find the Elia Bridge, which is built over the area where the Diarizos River meets with the river of the village Kaminaria.
The Serrachis River, one of Cyprus’ longest, has also filled with water, and has created a beautiful landscape in the villages it runs through.
The river empties into the Morphou bay and feeds one of the island’s dams, the Klirou dam, as well as runs through some picturesque villages.
There are also a few hiking trails that run by some of the dams of the island, which have filled with water and transformed the landscape to a lush green paradise.
Try the trail that runs by Xyliatos dam or the one that runs by the Yermasoyia dam in Limassol.
