If in Troodos, chances are you’ll end up at the main square somehow. Surrounded by a few remaining hotels of the area, the square has recently been renovated yet kept its traditional mountain look as pebbly streets make up a great deal of it. In the heart of the square is a playground area where kids can run around and play on the swings and wooden creations whilst adults relax by the benches. Children can also go on a guided short horse or donkey ride in the streets just off the square, under the trees.
Behind the playground, towards the mountain view, are nature trails for those seeking to discover the nature of the area and some of the endemic animal species hiding around. The walking trails start off covered by trees though some areas are exposed to the sun, where the majority of the playground is well-shaded by tall pine trees, which are very common of the area.
Also engulfing the square are shops and markets selling traditional Cypriot products such as soutzoukos, commandaria wine, Cypriot rusks and different varieties of honey-coated nuts which are highly popular of Troodos. For a relaxed break or a bite, you can head to the restaurants and tavern along the main road of the square and enjoy the mountainous scenery.
