Soups at 10 places to warm yourself
There is no more enjoyable option for cold winter nights than a plate of hot soup, just like mom or grandma used to make.
So if you want to enjoy homemade soup, go to Nick’s Café Patisserie (22253383). They make amazing broccoli soups, pumpkin soups, Moroccan soup with lentils, mushroom soups and various others that change daily (€5).
In Kalopanayiotis, at the Vyzantino restaurant (22952444) of Casale Panayiotis you will enjoy pumpkin soup and velvety vegetable soup (€5.50).
At Gefsikleous (70001980) things get even more traditional, with veal meatball soup and mushroom soup (about €9).
Matthaios (22755846) insists on the same traditional tones with trahana, avgolemono and louvana (€5).
If you go to Mageirisses (22381822), note that the pureed soup is offered with the appetizer and is free of charge. At Chris & Pieris Lemesos (25335001) their soups take you back years to the past, once you find avgolemono with chicken or with chicken and brains, trahana with halloumi, and beef soup (from €6.50). At Pagkratios Tavern (70003757), in Miliou, Paphos, they make an excellent homemade soup, which you should definitely try.
In Nicosia’s famous Beba (22252626) every day, they make a different soup, another for noon and another for the evening. If you get the chance to taste the traditional trahana with halloumi (€9.60) you will be thrilled, as will the louvana (€7.20), the vegetable soup and the yuvarlakia (meatball soup).
For the Makris tavern in Moniatis (25421275) the advantage is not only its location but also the hot soups it makes. During the weekdays they make louvana and on weekends trahana (€5).
