5 Stunning Beaches in Limassol
There are many beaches along the island’s second largest city, Limassol, but if you really want to combine raw beauty with a touch of ancient history, you want to take a look at this spectacular selection we put together for you.
All locations are easily accessible by either bus or car, and their proximity to cafes, bars and restaurants make them perfect for family days out.
1. Kourion Beach

Located below the stunning Kourion archaeological site in Episkopi Bay, this one-kilometre-long stretch of sandy beach is particularly striking, and is a favourite spot for windsurfers.
Facilities on the beach include toilets, showers, changing rooms, sun beds, umbrellas and several fish taverns. Convenience stores and accommodation can be found a short drive from the site. The beach has been awarded Blue Flag status for meeting high environmental and quality standards.
Lifeguards with lifesaving equipment and first aid services are stationed at the beach from April – October, 09:00 – 17:00, and until 18:00 during the summer season.
The Kourion archaeological site, with its famous amphitheatre and mosaics is well worth a visit. The beach is easy to reach by car or bus. The beach also offers disabled access.
2. Lady’s Mile Beach

This beautiful and unspoiled sandy beach is located just outside main city of Limassol, and falls under the British-controlled Sovereign Base area in the Akrotiri Peninsula.
The beach boasts dark grey sands and calm, shallow waters, making it popular with locals and visitors alike. Facilities on the beach include toilets, showers, changing rooms, sun beds, and umbrellas. Lifeguards with lifesaving equipment and first aid services are stationed at the beach from April – October, 09:00 – 17:00, and until 18:00 during the summer season.
The beach is named after the British Governor’s horse, a mare he used to ride along the beach. The area is well-known locally for its restaurants of fresh fish and traditional Cypriot cuisine. Some of the restaurants offer their own additional facilities, including water sports and activities for children.
The Akrotiri Salt Lake, a significant wetland in Europe and stop-over for migrating birds like flamingos and herons during the winter months is only a short drive away from the beach. The Byzantine Monastery of St. Nicholas of the Cats (Ayios Nikolaos ton Gaton), built in 365, is also located nearby.
3. Pissouri Bay

With crystal-clear blue waters and stunning, natural beauty, Pissouri has seen its popularity soar in the past few years, making it one of the most popular places for visitors and locals alike. It is also seen as an ideal place to buy property by expats looking to move or retire on the island.
Facilities on the beach include toilets, showers, sun beds, umbrellas, water sports and a beach volleyball court. There are five public footpaths, with two of them offering disabled access.
The west end of the bay leads to the headland of Asprorotsos (‘white rock’) that protrudes from the sea. At its end, there are small, sandy coves. The views from the top are spectacular, whilst you may also get a glimpse of the wild birds that visit the area, including falcons. The beach is often a breeding ground for sea turtles.
Visitors can enjoy many restaurants, bars and cafes lining the beach, or visit the village of Pissouri and explore its charming, traditional character.

4. Malindi Beach

Located next to the Limassol Marina on the eastern part of Limassol’s coastal strip, Malindi Beach is a favourite with both tourists and locals: the water tends to be calm and sheltered, there are no strong undertows and lifeguards keep watch during high season.
There are a good number of sun beds available, which can be rented by the day (not by the hour), though in high season (June to September) Malindi fills up quickly with both locals and tourists.
5. Governor’s Beach

Located close to Pentakomo village, about ten kilometres east of the main hotel district of Limassol, the famous Governor’s Beach is one of the most popular coastal areas of the island, and is characterized by chalk-white rocks that extend into the blue sea.
The beach consists of two parts: Governor’s, with its dark, sandy beach, and Kalymnos, which lies about 200 meters to the west, made up by a long, narrow stretch of sandy coastline.
Both beaches have calm, clean waters and offer fantastic nature walks to be enjoyed by the whole family.
Facilities on the beach include toilets, showers, changing rooms, sun beds, umbrellas, a children’s playground, beach cafes and a nearby camping site (Kalymnos). There are also several traditional restaurants, known for their fresh fish.
