Discover the island on a hike with Cyprus strollers

Cyprus is full of natural beauty, especially in Spring, when the rains have stopped and the island fills with greenery and wild flowers.

The island has many endemic flower species and animal species that are best viewed on a hike along one of the many trails or in the national parks.

Cyprus Strollers is a group that organises hiking days around the island, for visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the island.

The organisation has been running since 2014, and this May they have prepared many hikes in various locations.  The majority of May’s hikes will begin in the morning and be followed by an optional lunch at a tavern or by a picnic, when the weather is good.  Some of the hikes will be held in the afternoon, and will finish at a café for a snack and drink.

For May the group has planned the following hikes:

May 5 – Troodos

On May 5, the group will head to Troodos and walk along the Persephone trails.  The hike begins at the main Troodos Square, and will be 8km long, lasting approximately two hours.  It is considered to be an easy to medium difficulty trail.

The trail runs through a dense forest, which leads to an outlook point called ‘Makria Kontarka’.

After the hike, lunch will follow at a tavern.  Reservations are necessary.

Start time: Group will leave Nicosia at 09:45.

Fee: Free

May 11 – Pistilia region

Cyprus Strollers will be holding a long hike in the Pitsilia area of Troodos on May 11.  They will hike the trail of the Grand Circle of Mafari, which runs through a forested area filled with pines and golden oaks (the national tree of Cyprus).  The trail is six hours long and is classed as difficult, with large changes in elevation.  There are great views along the trail.

Start time: The Group will leave Nicosia at 08:30.

Fee: Free, but reservations are necessary for people looking to take part in the lunch.

May 19 – Troodos, Atlanta Trail

The group has organised a hike on the Atalanta trail in Troodos, which is 14km long at a height of approximately 1,750.  The trail is a circular route and will take about 4.5 hours with breaks.  It is medium difficulty, but offers great views of the mountains and valleys.

Start time: The group will leave Nicosia at 09:30.

Fee: Free, but reservations are necessary for the lunch that will follow.

May 25 – Troodos, Myllomeris Waterfall and Kambos

Cyprus strollers will be running two hikes on May 25, one at Myllomeris Waterfall, which will take approximately 2.30 hours.  The second trail will be at Kambos tou Livadiou, which will be followed by lunch.  The hikes are classed as easy to medium difficulty.

Start time: The group will leave Nicosia at 09:30.

Fee: Free, but reservations are necessary for lunch.
